Are you ready to get your Finances in order?

It's time to give youself a better gift for Christmas this year.  Don't you agree that the gift of financial wealth is better than the gift of debt?  Every year we tell ourselves that we will get our finances and credit in order. Yet, we start out on a good note excited about making a budget, tracking our spending, and creating a savings plan. However, there is one problem with this plan.  That problem is sometimes we don't stick with it for more than 3 or 6 months to truly reap the benefits or see the true results.
Sometimes we get distracted because we are not focused and our mindset about debt, money, or savings is not on the same page.  Instead, we make excuses that continue to put ourselves in the red or lack of financial plan instead of a wealth mentality mindset.   You can change your mind set about money, budgeting, retirement, savings, and debt by visiting Patrice Washington's website on Real Money Answers, "You Deserve Better Finances in 2016".  It's not too late to get started.

You cannot make steps toward progress if you have not changed the way you view, think, and handle your finances. You cannot get out of debt using the same mindset about spending. If you have the mindset "I got to buy it" then you’re defeating the purpose of getting your finances in order.

How many money & finance seminars have you attended? How many books have you read that you actually gained valuable information that added value to your life?  If your answer is only a few or maybe none then you should pick up Patrice Washington's Real Money Answers.

Don't allow anyone to spend the holidays alone.

Every year the holidays toward the end of the year can be overwhelming when you have lost loved ones.  How do you deal with feeling alone? How do you cope with missing loved ones that have gone home to heaven?  It's going to be important that you don't spend the holidays alone.  This is the time of the year that friends and family should be reaching out to one another to spend time together.  This will help eliminate the feeling of loneliness and being depressed and lost because someone close to you is no longer with you.

Around this time of the year, it's important to help those who experience suicidal thoughts, and fall into a depressed state of mind.  The holidays can be hard if you are spending it alone. Surround yourself with positive friends and family that will aid in you smiling, laughing, and enjoying the holidays.

Do you know someone who will be spending the holidays alone this year?  If so, reach out to him or her and invite them to spend the holidays with you.

Did you watch The Wiz Live?

Last night was truly a family night as we all sat back with our children to watch The Wiz Live on NBC. It had 11 million views last night which was great.

To see a new version and cast was amazing. The star studded cast with Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as evil witch of the west, Uzo Aduba as the good witch of the South was amazing.  Then introducing Shanice Williams as Dorothy was just beautiful. It was nice to see Stephanie Mills , David Alan Grier, Neo, and Common.  It was an amazing cast that did an outstanding job in their performance.  Let me say, Shanice Williams did an outstanding job and I am sure we will see more of this talented young lady.  The music was great and I like the variation of the storyline with a little humor for today's generation.

The best part about last night was the children today got to see and hear a show many of us 70's babies got to see when the original with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. It was awesome to see the performance with new faces. For those of who is saw the ordinal, what are your thoughts?

If you missed it, you can still watch it on demand.

Keeping quiet hurts and it's time to speak out.

Last week, the show Being Mary Jane touched on a very sensitive matter that was perfect timing.  It's a topic that we sometimes dance around because we don't want to be a burden to family and friends.  Keeping quiet hurts inside and out.  It's time to start speaking out and talking to someone about how we feel on the inside.  The silence will kill you if kept bottled up inside while you continue to lie to yourself that you are okay.   It will eat at you day in and day out until you explode.  Coping does not help with your feelings of being rejected, lost, broken, and depressed state of mind, heart, and soul.

Have you been there?  You put on a facad that everything is okay, but you are lying to yourself, friends, and family.  This is when you have to stop telling yourself that you do not need to talk to anyone.  This is the time to look in the mirror and tell yourself that "You love you" and seek help that will get you out of the state of mind and dark place that you will not admit to being because you are afraid of people judging you.  It's not about being judged and talk about, it's about speaking out for a better you.   Feeling overwhelmed and not loved is okay, you need to talk to someone so that they can give you advice.  Now, someone might say talk to your best friend, a parent, or your pastor.  Those choices are good but when you are feeling lost, broken, rejected, and depressed it's time to talk to a professional who is trained to get you through tough times.

Prayer and meditating works, but it helps when you are talking to a professional becomes an added plus and better journey to healing and over coming your state of mind.  We can fall down to our knees every night and day talking to God and believing that this is just temporary.  When you find yourself crying, drinking, and staying to yourself then you will need to be proactive in your journey to rising above depression and thoughts of suicide.  Keeping quite hurts and it's time to speak out for help.  Black women staying quiet about how they feel and what they are going through emotionally, mentally, and physically hurts more than it will ever heal.

When we can come to the conclusion that we are not alone and it's okay to speak out about what we are feeling.  Then a new journey to healing will begin that will rise us above depression and suicidal thoughts.  Crying on the inside screaming to be heard and seen.  We see you my sister and we are ready to hear you.  Sometimes all it takes is for someone to listen to you and how you feel.

Are you keeping quiet festering a storm?  It's time to speak out and talk to someone who will help you stand.  We all fall each and every day, but it's God's grace and loving mercy that we get up. It just takes one phone call for help.  Visit the http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ change your life will save your life with just one call.  Keeping quiet my sister hurts and it's time to speak out.

My Thoughts about South Carolina Cop Assault at Spring Valley High-

I first saw the video titled assault of Spring Valley High on Facebook.  The video went viral across social media .  When I saw the video I was shocked to see the student slammed down to the floor while still in her desk, dragged across the floor, thrown across the floor, and then handcuff.  Let's not forget the head lock that the police officer put her in while handling her.  Why so much violence toward one child?  At the end of the day, she is still someones child.  Why was her parents not called?  Why did the teacher allow the RSO officer to use such brutal force on this child when it did not appear that she was a threat to him or others?

As a parent, it's heartening to see your child irregardless of their actions, handled in such a violent way and manner.  According to CNN, the school district is now conducting an investigation into the matter and the office is on administrative leave.  Now, here's my big question did the school district decide to do an investigation into the officer's handling of the situation after the video went viral on social media and got the attention of the media?  Based on the video, one can ask if this could have been handled differently?  Where was the school social worker?  Where was the principal or assistant principal?

If you received a phone call from the school or even saw the video of your child being treated this way, how would you react and how would you handle the situation?  In my honest opinion, he used excessive force on a child and that should not be tolerated nor accepted behavior.

Today, a radio personality asked his audience if the officer was justified or wrong and I was shocked to hear that some people thought his actions were justified.  Take a look at the video posted on CNN and you tell me if his actions are justified or wrong.  Visit the link  at http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/26/us/south-carolina-spring-valley-high-school-student-video/

It's important to support Black Independent Films

What it means to support black films? It means a lot to be able to support black films that are independent productions outside of the usual Hollywood productions.   These movies may not be produced by the large movie studio's in Hollywood, but by the small production company with the same vision and dream.  Indpendent films are seen on NetFlix, TVOne, BET, and many on DVD.  They have strong messages, great actors both men and women, showcasing talented of writers, singers, and graphics artists.  Many of  directors visions is to be able to entertain, bring a positive message, and reflect positive roles of black women and men.   Most importantly, the issues addressed are relatable in the black community.

Meanwhile, it's a great accomplishment for many indie films to be selected for Black Film Festivals.  It's an opportunity to share their work, their talents, and their story.  My first film screening was attending that 5th annual Engelwood International Film Festival screening of Man In 3B on Friday, October 23, 2015.  The movie centers around Darryl Graham played by Lamman Rucker, who moves into 3B and all eyes are on him. The movie is filled with drama, love, and mystery.  The story has a twist at the end that will have you shocked.

AFter the movie, the co-stars even mingled with the audience for pictures and conversation.  This was a great evening of networking and engaging with some actors, actress, and directors.  An opportunity for you to be inspired to follow your dreams , find your passion, and walk into your purpose.

It always niced when you can ask questions from the co-stars from the film about their role. The co-stars in attendance was Brely Evans who plays Connie Mack and Christian Keyes who plays Slim a bad boy, and Trey Haley the director answered questions from the audience after the screening of the movie.

Will you be going to See the movie?   Check out the trailer below and be sure to visit theaters on November 6th.

When will the killings stop in Chicago?

When will the killings stop in Chicago?  How can communities take back their streets without stricter gun control?  We all know crime happens everywhere, but it has really gotten out of hand.  According to the Chicago Tribune and 2015 Chicago Murder DNA, track the number of deaths from 2012 to 2015 and it's nerve ending.  Look at these number of deaths as results to shootings:
  • In 2012, there was 509 deaths
  • In 2013, there was 422 deaths
  • In 2014, there was 426 deaths
  • In 2015, there have been 387 deaths as of October.
Now, looking at those numbers you might say, ok that's normal.  No, it's not normal to have people killed and some of these numbers are innocent bystanders, passing by, sitting in their homes, or on their porch.  The year to date shootings in Chicago is 2,410 (Jan-Oct) while the total for 2014 was 2,587 for the entire year.  These numbers are mind blowing as of the last data compiled.  It's really sad that so many shootings are taking place.  A baby was shot a few weeks ago along with the mother and grandmother with the baby being the only survivor from that shooting.  Over the summer many shootings happened but one occurred with over the summer that stands out in my mind is two teens fighting over a boy on Facebook  resulted one shooting the other.  Why, the senseless crimes?

So, the question still remains when will the killings stop in Chicago?  The numbers will go down when the access to getting guns is made harder and better laws that punish those who violate those laws.  Having a better presence of police patrol, but I guess one would have to say that folks will have to feel safe and trust police officers.

I like the fact that Rappers like Common and other local artists have come together with a song to try to stop the influence of gun violence in Chicago with a campaign to Put the Guns down.  There has to be a better way to get control of gun violence ont he streets of Chicago.

Too many innocent lives are being taken.  What other resolutions do you think can be implemented?

Blind Spot-New NBC Show Review

One of my favorite new shows on NBC is Blind Spot and it's a production of Warner Bros..  It's a about a woman whose entire body is cover in tattos and her memory was erased.  Each tattoo on her body represents a clue for a crime and a piece of the puzzle into her life.

What would you do if someone erased your memory and put tattoo's all over your body and dropped you off in the middle of downtown in a bag?  You have no identity to inform anyone who you are or where you came from.  However, you have one name tattooed on your back to an FBI agent.  Since premier week September 21st, I have been locked in and tuned into this show.  Each week has been intense and pulls you into the story hoping that Jane Doe discovers who she is while working closely with agent Weller and his team.

The cast line up is unique and talented.  The cast includes Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Marianne-Jean-Baptiste, Rob Brown, Audrey Espraza, Ukweli Roach, and Ashley Johnson.  There is great chemistry amount this dynamic cast.

Have you seen Blind Spot on Monday nights on NBC?

Minority Report-Fox's new show on Monday Nights

This is premier week and I am loving the new show on Fox called The Minority Report staring Megan Good.  She plays a metro police detective Lara Vega.  She is a cop racing to stop the worst crimes in 2065 before they happen with a man who is haunted by the future.  Wow, talk about futuristic show.  The future looks amazing.

Meanwhile, it's nice to see her back on television.  This is a good role for Megan Good and the story line for this series will keep you intrigued and coming back on Monday nights on Fox.   Her cast mates are Stark Sands as Dash is haunted by the future cops. Her co-workers  Wilmer Valderrama as Will Blake, Li Jun LI as Akeela work deligently to solve the murders.  While the twins siblings of Dash played by Nick Zano as Arthurnd, and Laura Regan as Agatha.  This is a great cast line up that I am looking forward to watch during this Fall season.

It's a great show that kicked off Monday nights and if you missed it make sure you check out the encore on Friday.

Her Stolen Pride- Mamie Kings Chalmers Real Life Story By LaSuria K.Allman

Her Stolen Pride, the true story about civil rights activist Mamie King Chalmers written by her eldest daughter Lasuria K. Allman.  She would spend 26 years fighting for her mother's stolen identity, stolen pride, stolen experiences, and rightful place in history. Lasuria would not stop with the first book, but she would continue to tell her mother's story in Her Stolen Pride II and Pride Restored.

Book cover: Her Stolen Tribe
I know of you are wondering, who is Mamie King Chalmers?  She is the young woman in all the pictures from the Civil Rights Movement on the front lines.  Mamie King Chalmers was hosed by the Birmingham Fire department and attacked by dogs as you can see in the many pictures caputred by the photographer.  We all have seen these pictures during black history month, in civil rights documentaries, and even in magazines, and TV specials. The photographer Charles Moore sold these famous photos to Time Magazine.

Photographer Charles Moore/Time Magazine
I recognized the pictures and like many didn't know her name until I sat down and interviewed Author Lasuria K. Allman.  There are still names unknown of those who fought for the right to vote that some people take for granted to this day.  It's time to read Her Stolen Pride Pt. I and Her Stolen Pride II, and Pride Restored found at http://www.thebookpatch.com/.

It was a journey that Lasurie was determined and driven to reclaim her mother's name and historical contributions to the Civil Rights Movement.  After countless letters to news stations and reports,

It would be a reporter by the name of Frank Donnelly for the Detroit News who would share Mamie King Chalmers story with the world.  Mr. Donnelly would air her story on the 50th anniversary of the historical pictures taken of her and the two boys being hosed in front of a store front in Birmingham, Alabama.  Finally, the world would get to hear the truth and see the real Mamie King Chalmers.

Movie Review- The Perfect Guy

On Sunday, we went to see the #1 movie at the box office, The Perfect Guy starting Saana Lathan, Michael Ealy, and Morris Chestnut.  It was a stunning performance by Saana Lathan and Michael Ealy.  To see her in a take charge, stand your ground, and fight was awesome.  Now, Michael Ealy played the perfect guy who was smart, fine, and psychotic is the word I will use for his role.  It was nice to see him play this type a role because he usually plays the good guy.  What can I say about Morris Chestnut?  He always shines and in his role he stood up to Carter Duncan.

This was a love story with a twist of suspense and drama.  It will keep you on your edge of your seat and even had us jumping a few times.  Carter was charming, he paid attention to detail, and he even past the girlfriends test. He was too good to be true.   The IT (computer expert) make you want to think twice about dating a guy who is extremely good with computers.   Dave was a laid back brother who sometimes get over looked and taken for granted.   Hint, the grass ain't always greener on the other side, now is it?   It was a beautiful love story between Leah and Dave.

As with all movies, there are always messages that one can take away with them and a lesson.  Let's start with the lesson first, the perfect guy does not exist.  If he does then run while you can because no man is perfect.  Second lesson, When you have a good man like Leah (Saana Lathan) did with Dave (Morris Chestnut), you cannot rush a man into marriage because your clock is clicking or you have this timeline that you have been keeping.  Another lessor or message if you wanted to name is to treasure the man that is spending time with you, appreciating the little things about you, and investing in the relationship.

What are the messages in the movie?  Sometimes we jump into relationship too quick without getting to know who are person really is?  Hint, Carter Duncan had another name? He had a temper that was out of control.  Another message, the police and the laws of the state cannot always help you as a woman when you run into your "Perfect Guy" that turns out to be crazy.  No, seriously open your eyes to the man that is standing before you who loves.  I believe we as women want The Perfect Guy to exist that will come along and sweep us off our feet like prince charming.

It was a great movie and I highly recommend everyone to go see it.  You will love this movie.  Have you seen it yet?  Don't you want to go see Carter Duncan (Michael Ealy), Leah Vaugh (Saana Lathan) and Dave (Morris Chestnut) in this love triangle mixed with drama, suspense, and love?

Let's make the school year 2015-2016 a great year

Well, its official the kids are back in school.  It’s a new school year for your babies going into kindergarten, junior high school, and high school.  For some students it will be an adjustment and it will even be an adjustment for parents; especially for parents with little ones going into kindergarten.  They may cry and for some they may not and leave the parents with tears that their little one is a big girl or big boy as they wave good bye.

The first day of school is so special and such a memorable day.  I remember the first day my daughter went to Kindergarten.  I was nervous about her riding the school bus and getting lost that I had to be there on the first day.  I think most employers expect new parents with little ones going to school for the first time to take the day off.  It’s an emotional day for us parents when our baby goes off to school for the first time.  Has the teacher had to reassure you that your son or daughter was in good hands before you would leave?  Yes, this is hilarious now but we all know each of us have been told this by the teacher or principal.  We are excited about the new school year and what it will bring.

Now, our middle school students and high school students it’s not as emotional as kindergarten.  However, you are just as excited about them getting out of the house, off the phone, and off social media to be actively learning in school.  You even encourage them to pick a sport and sign up for an after school club.  You want your children to be actively involved in school and learn discipline by participating in a sport or club.  It’s time for them to adjust to being back in school and on a different schedule of activities and even bed time.

It’s a new school year for college students and the emotions are high especially for parents dropping their freshman off.  We experience the empty nest syndrome for the first 6 months, at least I did.  Finding something to do as the house was quiet until the first weekend they come home to do laundry.  Back to school each year is different and gets to become memorable each year until your babies graduate from high school and go off to college.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”  Eleanor Roosevelt

Make it a great year of memories and teach them to soar high like an eagle, for nothing is impossible that they cannot rise above.  A new school year means new goals and new friends to take with you on new adventures and journey called learning.  As parents, keep encouraging your son or daughter with affirmations of success.  Keep them positive, active, and believing in their dreams.

Welcome back to school to all of our students for the 2015-2016 school years.  What will you do to make your son or daughter have a great year?

A powerful movie that makes you want to clean out your closet- War Room

Today was a perfect day to go see War Room, on Labor Day.  The movie was directed by Alex Kendrick.  This movie was powerful in so many ways and it touched my heart to see how your elders can teach another married woman how to find God, love God, and most important teach her how to pray.  We as women take on so many roles that sometimes we allow life to overtake our prayer life and time with God.  There were so many things that I loved about this movie especially Miss Clara played by Karen Abercrombie.  She portrayed this role perfectly that it reminded me of good friend.  Miss Clara’s advice to married women and her powerful prayer at the end made me want to go home and clean out a closet to make it my “War Room”.
Photo Credits Source: Tri-Star Pictures/Facebook Group War Room

This is not just a movie for black families or black couples; it’s a movie for all believers , all races, and non-believers.  Not to give too much away from those who have not seen the #1 movie in at the box office for the last two weeks since it came out August 28, 2015.  There is power in prayer and there is power in unity of prayer.  I loved her advice to Elizabeth Jordan played by Priscilla Evans Shirer to pray for her husband and pray for her marriage. One of the many points that I loved that Miss Clara helped Elizabeth to understand is that you belong to God before you belong to your husband.  She also let it be known that we as women cannot change a man that is God’s job.  We cannot fix him and we cannot mold him into the man that we want him to be.  All the molding and fixing belong to God.  He is the only one who has the power to mold, shape, change, and fix a man.

I am a firm believer in praying for my man and someday my husband.  I have learned this not just by watching movies, but through the teachings of my pastor along with what’s written in the bible.  It was beautiful to see that black man fall to his knees to pray and ask God for forgiveness. Tony Jordan played by TC Stallings was selfish and arrogant, but when his wife begins to pray, look out.  There was a scene when he was fighting with himself, and I must say that scene should be an eye opener to many men.  I am sure many men struggle with feeling they are fighting against the world trying to find their place.  Some are even fighting themselves as depicted in the movie.   It is a lot for a black man  or should I say any man to put aside his pride and realize who his king is and who he belongs to so that he can find his place in his purpose.  It’s important for a wife to pray for her husband, encourage him, and allow God to fight her battles.  It's important for a husband to pray with his wife and for his family.

War Room was a phenomenal movie that portrayed just how powerful prayer is and how strong a praying wife can be.  It has some strong and powerful messages throughout the movie.  A broken man cannot piece himself together without God.  A confused and overly busy woman cannot go day in and day out without walking and talking to God.  Prayer is powerful.  It’s the best tool we have to communicate with the heavenly father.  Do you have a prayer room or should I say, a War Room?

Why does Tragedy strike in the workplace?

This morning live on television news reporter Allison Parker and camera man Adam Ward was shot and killed. Accordingly to NBC news, the gunman was recently fired from the TV station in Virginia. The gunman then shot himself where he later died at the hospital.

This was a complete shock for many watching the news this morning. Because you would not expect someone to walk into a TV station while on air and open fire. It's truly sad that people get so angry at their employers or job circumstances that they contemplate, decide, and plan to kill innocent people instead of getting help with their problems or anger issues.

It's disturbing that one cannot go to work, to  school, to theater, or to a mall and feel safe. What is going on in the minds of those who decide to take innocent lives? Are the gun control laws strict enough? Is it that easy to get a gun and walk into a place of employment?  What actions can employers take to make their employees feel safe?

Are there better ways to terminate a disgruntled employee? The gun violence has gotten completely out of control. If you can't feel safe when you get to work, then  where can you feel safe?

At this point, all lives matter! How do you think employers should handle terminating disgruntled employees? Should the federal government take responsibility in the fatalities because of the not so strict gun laws being different In each state?  Who is responsible when the shooter kills himself?

Why does tragedy strike in the workplace?

Small business tips for Aspiring Business owner

Welcome to Small business tip Wednesday's.  When building your dream business or turning your passion into a business, you want resources with information that will help you avoid making costly mistakes, invested time wisely, make profits, and build connections to grow your business.

I read an article by Evan Carmichael called "Richard Branson's 10 Rules to Entrepreneur Success",  that includes a video of Branson discussing his rules for entrepreneurship.   I discovered he is dsylexic and yet he is a billionaire.  I love helpful tips and resources for the aspiring small business owners like myself and new entrepreneurs.  It's a great way to pay it forward with useful, resourceful, and beneficial information that will help not just small business owners but the dreamer too.

Branson's 10 rules for Success:
  1. Keep it Simple-don't make your product or service complicated.
  2. Give it a Try- stop debating on when you will start a business, just do it.
  3. Be a Leader- Have goals and clear vision.
  4. Don't Give Up- Don't allow roadblocks and obstacles stop you.
  5. Delegate-you cannot do everything to grow your business.
  6. Treat People Well- Don't burn bridges.
  7. Shake Things Up-Create new business products or services.
  8. People will be Skeptical-Be aware of who they are and believe in your business.
  9. Affect Lives positive- Focus on having a positive impact on people's lives.
  10. Do things different-Stand out, don't be the traditional entrepreneur.

My interpretation to Branson's rules for Success for aspiring entrepreneurs or small business:
  1. Define your service or product
  2. Believe in yourself -Trust and have faith in you and your dream.
  3. Have a clear vision and goals
  4. Have people that support your vision and understand your goals
  5. Learn from your mistakes and keep pressing forward
  6. Grow your business-use resources like interns or virtual assistants.
  7. Pay it forward- share the knowledge and resources with another aspiring entrepreneur.
  8. Build Relationships-network with others, grow, and learn.
  9. Create new business
  10. Be aware of naysayers-acknowledge them and keep your eyes open.
  11. Change lives- Your business should have a positive impact on someones life
  12. Be unique -Don't be the traditional entrepreneur, stand out.

I know you are probably wondering, how did I get all of that from reading the article and watching a video? I tell you what, watch the video and read the article in the resource link below and tell me if you didn't come up with your own interpretation of tips for successful entrepreneur.

Why are black lives being taken?

Why are black lives being taken?  This summer has seen tragedy with women and men in 2015.  There are so many questions to ask the authorities in power need who need to give answers to the people of various ethnic communities  who feel like they are being racially profiled.

Most of the questions are Why, how, and what. What went wrong for a person go from simple traffic violation and being  unarmed that would results in a mysterious death that is hidden or covered up?

Today, it was announced on ABC News that police officer Brad Miller who killed Christian Taylor, was fired. The case is still under investigation in Arlington, Texas. Even though he was fired, all eyes are watching this case to see if justice will prevail or if he will just suffer a termination of employment.

The bottom line is Miller was fired for making a poor judgement that resulted in the death of 19 year Christian Taylor. The officer claimed that Christian had a gun in his pocket, but it turned out to be his cell phone and wallet. Why are some officers shooting first and asking questions last so to speak?  We all understand the serve and protect, but this last year the protecting and serving had gotten out of control in some areas.

It's not just men dying, but women have died while in police custody. In the month of July, five women died while in police custody.  This raises more questions for those who were sworn in to serve and protect. Many of the families want the truth to why their loved ones had to die and what really went wrong. Some of the video surveillance release is heartening. People in communities predominantly black fear being pulled over for any type of violations by police. The trust in police has now become questionable because many fear of going to jail and dying in jail or on the way to jail. These are horrible acts of deaths of women who were pulled over for simple traffic violations, detained in a holding cell, and who were unarmed with no criminal background.

The hashtag #SayHerName and #BlackLivesMatter was created so that we will not forget them and continue to seek justice for Sandra bland, Miriam Carey, Raynette Turner, Malissa Williams, and many others. Read more about the black movement for Black lives matter at http://hellobeautiful.com/2015/07/30/sayhername-black-women-police-brutality-victims/

The community wants answers to the deaths of the men and women. For some they fears traveling to the places in the south like Texas as an example. But it's not just happening in the South. It's has occurred all over the country.  Why hasn't the federal justice department stepped forward or made a connection to all of the killings isolating African Americans, Latino, Hispanic native America men and women.

When will these families see justice? What must we as a community do and as a country do? Is this a form of genocide? There are some angry people who want answers. How can the people get answers and justice?

It's time for covenant prayer for peace and for justice to prevail.

Why Place Limit's on your gifts and talents?

Why Place limits on your gifts and talents?  Have you ever asked yourself why do you do this?  There is a quote that that sparked this topic and I could not help but ask the question to everyone about placing limits on our gifts, talents, and our lives.

"Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do.  You can go as far as your mind lets you.  What you beleive, remember you can achieve." by Mary Kay Ash

Sometimes we place limits on ourselves without knowing the consequences.  I say this because their are so many dreamers walking around not using or sharing their gifts or talents.  Some are afraid because they fear the cost it will take to make their dreams a reality.  What about the benefits you will reap for investing in your dreams?  One has to believe in his or her dream before anyone else can.  How many times have you heard this?  Sometimes we don't think we can do what we believe because our thoughts talks us right out of our journey to greatness.  We even become complacent with where we are in our career, our life, and our finances.  What exactly do you have to loose by investing in your dreams?

To do this one must do two very important things:
  1. Remove the Limits set within and over your life
  2. Remove the boundaries that you have created and allowed to enter your life
Limits

If we remove the limits that we set before our your journey, then we can open doors of opportunities that will allow the use of our gifts and talents.  God didn't give you these gifts and talents to be dormant.  He gave you these gifts to share with the world be a light to shine for others.  Let go of your fears and start surrounding yourself with those doing wihat you desire to do.  It's time to learn, but first you must have the faith to let go of the limitations that you have placed on your life.  Start with letting go of fear, release your thoughts in your mind, release negative people, and most importantly put your trust in God.

Boundaries

If we remove the boundaries that you have created for yourself you will begin to see a path of prosperity and growth.  This will allow you to spread your wings so that you can start sharing your gifts and talents.  If you have not tapped into your gifts yet, then this is the time to figure out what are your gifts and talents?  Examine what you are passionate about.  It's always something that you drop everything to do and get excited about just thinking about it.  This is that special something that always places a smile on your face.  It's  an activity or a skill that you do that is unique to your personality and your spirit.  It's who you are and who you were born to be.  Once you figure out who you are then you can remove the boundaries or should we say wall from your life.  It's like taking off a mask to disover a new you.

Why are you placing limits on your gifts and talents?  Better yet, why are you not sharing your gifts with the world?  Are you wearing a mask?

What's on my travel bucket list?

As we get older sometimes we sit and reflect about our life, our dreams, our journey, and where we are now and where we want to go.  The month of July has been a month of reflection for me.  I have made up my mind that my life will have more than sweet memories and great accomplishments in my career and my business.  I want to see more and do more. With that being said, I come up with a bucket travel list.

Meanwhile, I am looking back over places I have visited and where I would like to visit.  You only get one life so why not see the world.  What places have you dreamed of visiting?  I always said, I want to see the world and write about places I have been and people I meet along the journey.  Being a mom that list became limited until now. Yes, the joy of having a college student enabled me to start thinking more about me and my dreams.  Don't get me wrong I still think of my daughter who plans to travel the world.

When you become a mom at 21 years of age, your priorities are taking care of your new family instead of traveling. I would not change having her for the world because she changed how I saw life as an adult.

It's time to live those dreams and put the writer in me to work and share my stories  and accomplish more off my travel bucket list.

So, how do you get started with a travel bucket list? I like to research many of the best places to visit reports that come out each year.  Then like any other goal, I make a list of my top 10  for U.S.A places to visit and  then I make my international list of places to visit.
Below are my top five on each list.

Places to visit in U.S.
1. Washington DC
2. New York
3. California, Los Angeles
4. Miami, Florida
5. San Francisco, California

Places to visit outside the U.S.:
1. Germany
2. Switzerland
3. Italy
4. France
5. Spain

Now the journey begins as I research each place and hot spots to visits for tourists. Then I request information from each place so that I may plan and budget my trips over the next five years. This is good therapy for one to plan, research, and execute a travel bucket list.  It's fun to create a list of places to visit and make goals to make the journey real. I want to write about my journey and share stories and experiences  for generations to come. Your life is a gift and a treasure to be shared with others.

Do you have a travel bucket list?

Why are adults encouraging bullying?

The question that I have for everyone is why are adults encouraging bullying? Yesterday someone posted a video on Facebook with an 8 year old girl brutally beating a 5 year old little girl. The adults edged on the 8 year old girl who was bigger than the 5 year old.

This video was very disturbing not because I am a parent, but that grown adults edge this child to beat on this baby! She was so little that it brought tears to my eyes and the adults  standing around watching this fight take place need more than to be ashamed, but arrested because to me this was a crime.  A 5 year old is what in kindergarten and an 8 year is what 2nd or 3rd grade?

My heart goes out to the parents of the little 5 year old. I pray that the video get the attention of the authorities and charges are brought against every adult in that backyard. People don't understand the affects that bullying has on a child and this little girl is only 5. I am sure she is traumatized. This is not right at all.

As for the 8 year old, yes she needs to be taught that you don't pick on anyone smaller than you. If the little one did something to her then she should have gone to her parents so they discipline or talk to her. It was not her place to put her hands on the 5 year old.  Yes, the mother in me want to whoop the 8 year old too, but, she did what she was taught so one must blame the parent or the adults pushing her to punch this baby.  She is old enough to know right from wrong and should have some form of punishment  for her actions.

Children that are bullied grow up angry and some even distant or anti-social. The psychological damage is done so now how does one help her to heal and get beyond that experience?  Why was this 8 year old encouraged to bear on this baby? Bullying should not be entertainment. It's not a gift nor is it a talent.

What does bullying prove? Being a bully does not make you a "bad ass". It makes  you out to be an insecure person that has to belittling others to make yourself feel good. This type of behavior will lead one down a path of destruction  that will result in incarceration.

What do you think should happen to the adults and the 8 year old?

Do you have a vision board?

Are you a dreamer? Do you envision yourself doing something that you always dreamed to do but never seem to find the time? You find yourself conflicted with   how to get started and how to go about making your vision real?  Well today, I watched a interview on you tube by Oprah Winfrey talking with Steve Harvey about his vision board. To my surprise, I never would have thought men did a vision boards.  Steve told Oprah that you have to keep your goals in front of you.  So how can you get started? Create a vision board with the things you want to do and put a plan of action into place to execute that plan.  Check out his interview on you tube, it will inspire you to start your vision board today.  http://youtu.be/pJNed-owcP8

There are many tutorials on you tube that can give you sample ideals  and motivation on how to get started. Put your vision in front of you and make realistic goals to make each item on your vision board come true.  Put your vision board where you can see it and review it weekly and tweak it if necessary.  Here is a quick tutorial with Dr. Rose Moten http://youtu.be/bnCWD2K4lio

I took a picture of my vision board so I could have it on my phone  then made a smaller version of it for my bedroom so that I see it every morning when I wake up heading into my bathroom. I agree with Steve Harvey that keeping it in front of you will make you see the vision bs dream, and help you to stay focused on what you need to do to complete the tasks that gets you closer to your vision real.  Execute the vision and make your dreams come true.  Below is a sample layout of a vision board.

Have you started your vision board? It's not to late to create a vision board and goals to make it happen. It's time to live your life with vision.

Reflection of Me

Today is my birthday and I am feeling blessed and loved! I have reached a beautiful milestone in my life where this last year I tapped into not just my passion, but I awakened my purpose. For the last year, I have been and I still am on this journey to discovering me and my gifts, my talent, and my passion that has lead me into my purpose.

Some people never discover their purpose or even who they are, but I feel blessed at the gorgeous age of 45. I have found me and she will never be lost again. I thank God for the trials that have lead me to where I am now.  I am grateful for the tests and they have prepared me for what's ahead. I am still learning and growing. I accept that I am not perfect and I forgive myself for all of my mistakes that I have made from my past to my present.  I am honored  and loved that God has never left my side even when I abandoned him.  I thankful for my days and nights that God has held me even when their was no one else present to understand my tears, my sorrows, my joy, and my journey.

I am so happy for the journey that I am on at this beautiful age of maturity.  I am looking forward to what is ahead of me. I am excited about the business venture journey that I am stepping out on faith as God continues to show me my path. The dreams are real and my blessings are abundant for I put my trust and faith in the father.

2015 and 2016 is going to see birthed the entrepreneur, writer, and published author of not one novel but three.  A collaboration with some talented and purpose driven women.

My Black is Beautiful-A Sister's Journey

Have you ever felt like you didn’t’ fit in because you were too dark or not light enough? When you grow up with siblings that don’t look like you and tease you because you’re darker or lighter than them, it does something to your self-esteem and your spirit. You find yourself with an identity crisis as a black woman.

Growing up, I had an aunt that did the brown paper bag test when you became of age to start dating. Now, this sounds cruel because what you are teaching your nieces and daughters is to not bring home a man any darker than the brown paper bag. You remember the brown paper bag, right? She was a stickler for making her point that if you dated someone darker than a brown paper bag, your babies would be ugly because he or she would be dark skinned.
Photo Credits: Black Beautiful Women Tumblr

I am a beautiful brown skinned woman that struggled as a pre-teen thru my young adult years with my skin color. Because some people in the family said I was not light enough. For years, I thought my complexion was ugly and that I had too many moles and freckles under my eyes. It affects your self-esteem and you find yourself putting a cap full of bleach in your bath water as a teen-ager trying to lighten your skin. It causes you to stereotype yourself when dating, sticking to the rule of he must be lighter than the brown paper bag to make light skinned babies. So, I never dated anyone darker than a brown paper bag from my teen years through my late 20’s going into my 30’s. That is when reality checked in, or in the famous words of Tyler Perry’s Medea, "The light bulb went off."

It was when I became a mother of this beautiful little girl that I refused to teach or allow her to have a color complex within her own race. I didn’t’ want her to experience what I went through growing up as a black woman thinking she was too dark or not light enough. It was time for me to teach self-love and that being any shade of black is beautiful. So, I began to teach and let my daughter know she is a beautiful black girl who is perfect just the way God designed her to be. Black is beautiful in all shades. Whether you’re light skinned, Carmel, chocolate, brown skinned, or dark chocolate are the labels our family members give us. It’s time to eliminate the labels.

Tell your daughters that their skin color is beautiful at an early age and let them know they are uniquely designed and made in love thru God’s eyes. Let her know those freckles in her face are beauty marks from her rich heritage. Tell her the dimples she have showcase her intellectual smile. Let her know that the shape of her eyes marks the inner beauty from inside out and they are bridges to wisdom. Remind her that she has a unique DNA that makes a beautiful girl blossom into a beautiful black woman.

Teach your daughters that their skin is beautiful and flawless. There is no need to bleach your skin to live up to society or even ignorant family standards of what makes a black woman beautiful. It’s time to break the cycle of feeling too dark or not light enough. It’s time to teach our daughters, sisters, and friends that Black is Beautiful.

Black is beautiful in all shades, shapes, and sizes. We are all beautifully created in God’s eyes. We are wonderful masterpieces in a beautiful puzzle neatly designed and crafted by the most high.

Are you your sister's keeper?

Are you your sister's keeper? Have you ever felt like for every mistake your sister makes that you feel obligated to make it right? When she makes decisions that are not thought through clearly, like dropping out of school, poor dating choices, drinking habbits, or not living up to her full potential.   When she makes decisions that are dangerous to her well being emotionally and physically.  What do you do?

You ask yourself, am I my sister's keeper? You grew up being the big sister taking the role of given sisterly advice and guidance especially when it came to dating, clothes, hair, and makeup. Then someday you would find yourself giving motherhood and career advice. Again, I ask you, are you your sister's keeper?  Somthing to think about  right?

How do you help your sister to open her eyes to trouble that don't mean her well? What about the bad choices that don't mean her any good emotionally or physically?  One has to step back and allow your sister to fall flat on her back.  If not, she will never grow up into a mature woman who can make good decisions and choices. Meanwhile, what do you do?   You can pray for her emotional, physical, and mental state of mind.   You can ask for guidance and wisdom for her so that she will began to seek and see the truth.  But you cannot make choices for her that will be better for you as she is the only one who can take control of her life.

Eventually, she will have to get tired of getting tired. She will have to realized that the some choices that she makes is emotionally draining of her physically and mentally.  This is not healthy.  She will have to conclude that what she thinks is happiness is not happiness that God defined as happiness. She will also have to realized what she believes is love is not love.   A sister is not her sister's keeper, but she is a prayer warrior that keeps praying that her sister realizes that unconditional love is never meant to be toxic, hurtful, isolating, or controlling.

Love is unified and blessed with a purpose driven partner that you are to be a light together.

So the question remains, are you your sister's keeper?
